WILMINGTON -- A number of UNCW students were put in jail Monday, but it was all for a good cause. Students donated their time to be put in charity jail to collect money for the Special Olympics. They were released after they reached a minimum of $100. The proceeds from the event will go towards future programs and competitions for the Special Olympics. Athletes are already gearing up for their fall competition in November. Special Olympics coordinator Johnathan Batts said, "Not only does it bring money to our programs, so we can fund our programs, it also gets them involved, gets the university involved. These guys becomes coaches and see how rewarding Special Olympics is." The Special Olympics will also be hosting a dance this Wednesday night in Halyburton Park.
