Update: Case of possible attack on elderly woman re-opened

Tuesday we told you about a Columbus County family, concerned about what they say was a brutal attack on their elderly aunt last October. Richard Wilson says he went to check on his Aunt Ida Smith, and found her naked and bleeding on her bedroom floor. Medical reports show Ida had broken both legs, and had bruises on her face and upper body. The Columbus County Sheriffs office investigated the incident, but say they closed the case, because they believed smith was injured in a fall. The story aired on NewsChannel 3 on Tuesday. Wednesday morning, a Columbus County Sheriff's Detective called to tell us Smith's case has been reopened. We spoke to Ida Smith's family Wednesday morning. They said they hadn't yet heard from the Sheriff's Department, but were grateful to hear the case would be investigated further.
