There is an update Friday on the 11-year-old boy hit by a car in New Hanover County Wednesday night. Rayvon Malik Davis has been upgraded from critical to serious condition. 12-year-old Tyler Wheeler also suffered minor injuries in the accident on Lord Tennyson Drive. The driver of the car that hit them was not charged. Authorities said he was going the speed limit, and the kids were playing in the middle of the road after dark, wearing dark clothing.

It's always the parents

Alot of comments and questions are based on where were the parents and why were the children out so late? This happened at 6:30-7:00 pm not 10 or 11 and these are not babies who must be supervised every second of every minute. Also they were not playing in the street, the boy was on his way home from a friends house. Guess you'll didn't read the update, but another child was injuried also. Guess you'll also didn't know that the driver picked up the little boy and moved him to the grass which could have made his injuries worst. Maybe the state should do an investigation on the parents' but the only thing they will find is a hard working mother, with children who are straight A STUDENTS, whom at the time was visiting family in another state on an emergency. Yes there was adult supervision (the childrens aunt). So get the facts and details before bashing the parents all the time.

Here's a fact for you....one

Here's a fact for you....one of the boys (the one not injured) is a gang member that has been in trouble quite a bit at school. And YES, they were playing in the middle of the road. Whether they were on their way home from a friends house or not, it doesn't change the fact of where they were when they were hit

Your Judged by the company you keep

Come on we all know guilty be association..... aka your judged by the company you keep. Anyways, why is it ok to play in the street light or dark thats the first thing that all parents teach their kids. Oh wait thats right we owe this kids and the parents something as in all cases dealing with well won't go there. Learn the rules of behaving in society and mabey sad accidents like this won't happend. I hope the young man pulls out my thoughts and prayers are with him and his dumb judgements.

YOU ARE JUDGED BY YOUR DEMEANOR!

I HAD TO READ WHAT YOU WROTE FOUR TIMES' TO UNDERSTAND IT. 1ST, NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS' COVER, 2ND, THE 1ST THING THAT PARENTS' TEACH CHILDREN IS NOT TO TALK TO STRANGERS'. WHILE YOU MIGHT THINK HIS JUDGEMENT WAS DUMB, I THINK YOUR WRITING SKILLS ARE VERY BAD AND POOR. AFTER READING MOST OF THESE COMMENTS, SOMEONE WROTE THAT IT WAS CAUGHT ON VIDEO (MAYBE BY CELL PHONE, I'M REALLY NOT SURE) BUT IF IT WAS THEN FIND A WAY TO FOLLOW UP ON THE STORY AND THEN RIGHT FACTS, NOT OPINONS.

Well just because one is

Well just because one is gang affiliated, doesn't mean they all are. No they were not playing in the street, they were crossing the street (trust me I know, with proof). Let me ask you this, if speeding didn't play a factor, then why was there an 8 ft skid mark in the road? (I really don't know so that's why I'm asking). Also, why would the driver pick up the boy and move him, verses leaving him where he got hit? (That can make injuries alot worst).

You are who you hang out

You are who you hang out with.... and if speeding was an issue, the driver would have been cited. And unless you were there, you cannot prove that they weren't playing in the middle of the road. And let's just say they were crossing the street...did they cross right away or were they walking at an angle and took their time crossing the street? And I'm pretty sure the boys could easily have seen the headlights from the vehicle and should have moved out of the way of the car. As far as moving him, some people get scared and don't think. He was probably worried about the kid he just hit and wanted him out of the roadway...you can't fault him for that

The replys' that you are

The replys' that you are giving back just means one of two things: Either you are a friend of the driver's or you just have been reading and researching on this article. You are NOT who you hang out with, each is their own kind. I guess you haven't heard the rest of the story behind this, well you need to because alot has came out as well as videos has been seen. The real truth lies there with in but search around for truth then come back with facts.

Sorry, but you are judged by

Sorry, but you are judged by whom you hang out with. If you don't want to be associated with drugs then you don't hang out with drug users. If you don't want to be associated with gangs, don't hang out with gang members. And if there is more to this story, including a video, then why hasn't ANY of the news medias posted about it? Why wasn't the video available for all to see. And I'm curious, for an event that happens in less than a few seconds, how was someone able to get the video on their phone working so fast?

speed limit

Speed limit was 35 in KG, when was it changed to 25? Kids *should* be taught to move out of the path of an oncoming vehicle. Cant tell me they do not have the sense to get out of the street. Even if he was crossing he would have seen the car coming. Bet he sits out in the rain too. Bet he wont do it again.

I drive on this road and

I drive on this road and have witness numerous times the kids on Lord Tennyson daring drivers to hit them. They refuse to get out of the middle of road and when you do go around them they use foul language. Parents should remind their children to wear white if out at night riding their bikes and have relectors and a light on bike! This road is extremely dark. People living on this road could request area lighting from Progress Energy we have 1 in front of our home and between my neighbors we split the cost. I wish a speedy recovery for this boy..It was an accident that didn't need to happen.

My sister was driving down

My sister was driving down the road one day and a teenage girl was standing off the pavement arguing with her boyfriend. She turned with her back to the traffic and started across the road. My sister swerved and the boy grabbed for her arm and she still walked right into the car and somehow propelled up and into the windsheild. There was oncoming traffic and witnesses as it was broad daylight. The girl sustained a broken leg and face and head wounds from going through the windsheild. The state trooper said she just had the momentum going where she was angry and trying to get away from her boyfriend and she hit the side of the car with enough force that she bounced up on top of it. Headlights only shine so far and if the kids were out of the beam of the light, the driver might not have seen them. Another possiblity is that he was not expecting kids to be out in the road playing in the dark so that might have affected his reaction time. I don't think I would have expected them to be there. They can also tell how fast the car was going by measuring any tred marks on the pavement. I saw on a tv show on Spike a few weeks ago that if you are being hit by a car to dive up on the hood and hit the windsheild and you had the best chance to survive. I hope they weren't testing that theory.

Trask Middle students

Just a note to the school officals @ trask ,many 6 & 7 grade students were upset in school on the day following day after their friend & classmate was in the hospital, the principle & the assist Principle said no special time out for grieving students. Teachers were told no to having counslers to helping the distraught students... Why wasnt there help for the students... some times this school district has issues...

Jaci, I think sometimes you

Jaci, I think sometimes you have to put things into perspective, and not be so delicate. Yes, this was horrible, shocking and scary, but it should really not be the focus of your day. If your parents saw fit to send you to, and keep you in school regardless of your grief and upset, then disrupting the entire school day isn't necessarily called for either.

It just doesn't add up!

Thank god Rayvon is doing ok, but I still can't figure out how the driver wasn't speeding. He hit two children, one whom was thrown on the windshield of the car. Was the driver of the car headlights' on? How can he be doing 25 mph with lights' on and not see the children? I think a full investigation needs' to be done because it just doesn't add up. Also, again; where are the street lights'? I think the driver as well as the county needs' to be held accountable.

It sure doesn't

It sure doesn't add up... But the appropriate question probably is where were the parents???? The driver was on a public road driving his personal vehicle. The question should be why were the kids in the road?? Kids play in their yards or playgrounds and cars are operated on roads and the two are not meant to mix. Whey are you so quick to say the city and driver should be held responsible. The ones who should be held responsible are the parents for letting their kids play in the street after dark while wearing dark clothes. The only investigation that needs to be done is by the Department of Social Services against the parents!!!!! Sounds like you think the parents should "get paid" for doing a sorry job at parenting.

you must have no law

you must have no law enforcement inteligance at all...

We weren't there

I also am glad these children are ok, I'm sorry this happened at all. I don't know any of the parties involved but I can tell you I travel these roads to visit family in the area and kids are everywhere. I do drive slowly because of this. This driver had no reason not to go the speed limit given the hour and darkness. Do the parents not share some responsibility in keeping their child inside after dark on a street with no street light? I've been down the streets in Kings Grant and while going only 10 mph had to slam on brakes because sometimes the kids wait for you to come by and play 'chicken' and other times just don't pay attention and pull out in front of you. If indeed either of these situations happened he indeed could NOT have avoided this situation. Unless we have all the facts let's don't judge.

The driver and the county???

The driver and the county??? What about the parents? Why was this kid allowed to play in the middle of the street at night?
