The crew members aboard the Coast Guard cutter Diligence gave themselves and their families quite a Christmas present today. They came home. The Diligence docked along the riverfront this afternoon, greeted by excited family members. The crew was supposed to return yesterday, but was diverted for a search and rescue mission off the coast off Charleston. Just days before Christmas, they're excited to be home. Crew member Rich Dorreman said, "Feels really good to be back. When we pull in close to Christmas like this, you never know what could happen out there; you could get extended or have to stay out longer and especially, not so much for me, but for them, to see them on Christmas day, it's really hard if you're not there." The Diligence was at sea since early November, mostly training in Florida.
