Sara Hopkins joined the WWAY news team in January 2014. She grew up in west-central Georgia in a rural community sandwiched between Atlanta and Columbus. Though she loves to travel, she is happiest living and working in the south.
Sara received a Bachelor of Arts in Radio, Television and Film in 2013 from Auburn University. There she loved anchoring, reporting and shooting video for the campus TV station Eagle Eye TV. When she wasn't working on the news show, she produced and hosted a weekly viral video segment called "What's Hoppinin."
Her participation in EETV gave Sara the opportunity to work with Carolina Panthers quarterback and Auburn alum Cam Newton in the week-long filming of a national commercial for Auburn University. While she's new to North Carolina, as an Auburn alumna she loves being in a state that cheers on this Auburn football legend. She was privileged to be selected as both a production assistant and as a "student" (on-camera) in the commercial.
Sara completed her studies as a full-time reporting intern for WWAY's sister station WDEF News 12 in Chattanooga, TN. By the end of her time there, she was working with a photographer, performing interviews, reporting and writing stories daily.
Sara says she and her little dog, Chico, have fallen in love with beautiful Wilmington. Being a master SCUBA diver and instructor, Sara hopes to fully explore the area, both on land and underwater. She feels privileged to work with such an outstanding news team and some of the nicest people she says she's ever met.
