Tim Buckley joined WWAY in July 2009 as a meteorologist and general assignment reporter.
A native of snowy upstate New York, I came to Wilmington looking forward to enjoying the warm weather and beautiful beaches that this area has to offer. As long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated and intrigued by the weather. My hometown of Pulaski, New York sits along eastern shore of Lake Ontario and measures snowfall in feet rather than inches. Each year of my childhood I would be amazed as more than 150 inches of snow would pile up in my own backyard. After watching Mother Nature unleash her fury each and every winter, I decided at a young age that I needed to pursue meteorology.
I went on to Penn State University, where I would receive my degree in meteorology with a concentration in weather forecasting and communications. While there, I participated in many different weather activities. I served as president of the Campus Weather Service - the largest student forecasting organization in the world! - as well as several campus television productions. I delivered daily forecasts for the Campus Weather Service, was a cast member on the TV show Weather or Not, and was a lead meteorologist for the Centre County Report. In these shows I was able to cover everything from snowstorms, bone-chilling cold spells, severe thunderstorms, as well as combine two of my passions to produce a weekly football forecast.
While at Penn State I also was a lucky member of the Penn State Blue Band, and performed at each and every home football game at Beaver Stadium. While I enjoyed my time studying weather patterns, there's not much that can top the rush I received from performing in front of over 110,000 people each and every week on the field. My years in the band not only allowed me to continue my love of music and sports, but I also was able to travel all over the country. Following the football team to places like Miami, Tampa, San Antonio, Pasadena, and dozens more - all on the university's dime - allowed me to see the sights and sounds of so many great cities and universities that the country has to offer.
Some of my other interests include photography, politics, traveling to new areas, and spending time with family and friends. I cannot possibly forget to mention my obsession with several of my favorite sports teams. Not a day goes by that I don't spend time following my favorite pro teams, the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Bills. However, as an alum of Penn State, my biggest passion is cheering on the Nittany Lions. Go State!
I look forward to getting to know the people of Wilmington and exploring all the sights and sounds that this vibrant community has to offer!
