WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A man who dedicated his life to helping veterans find jobs died in a car crash this morning. It happened on Shell Point Road near NC 130 in Brunswick County around 7:30 a.m.
Milton Daniel Peninger, 60, was only about two miles from his home on his way to work when troopers say he crossed the center line and side-swiped a dump truck. He was not wearing his seat belt.
Peninger was a year away from retiring from his job at the Employment Security Commission in New Hanover County, where he helped veterans. He was a Vietnam veteran himself, as well as a cancer survivor.

I can also attest to the fact that Dan was a good man. He was also a tough man, I saw him go through some tough times...he never gave up. The world lost a good person.
