WILMINGTON -- Veterans of various ages, wars and branches of the US military celebrated Veterans Day at Cape Fear Community College Monday. Every branch of the US military was represented at Monday's service. The wars these veterans served in ranged from Vietnam to the war in Iraq. A young Iraq veteran and the current commanding officer of the Coast Guard Diligence spoke at the event, thanking their collogues and comrades for their service. Retired US Coast Guard captain Bob Philpott said, "Giving back to the country was always a big thing in my family, and when I see all the people who step forward I say sooner or later you've got to say thanks." The event concluded with all the members of different us military branches standing and saluting one another.
