BURGAW,NC (WWAY) – After losing in the east regional finals the last two years the Pender boys finally earned an invitation to the 1-A state championship game. They’ll be playing North Rowan on Saturday in Raleigh at historic Reynolds Coliseum. For Pender head coach Gary Battle punching a ticket to the state title game is a huge relief. Pender sports a 24-4 record. In fact the team carries a 24 game winning streak. Gary Battle said, “The kids have been asking me all year, is this the best team you’ve ever coached Coach Battle? I have to say yes, even though we had those good teams at East Columbus and Acme-Delco. We go by the record of the team and whose gone the furthest and right now this team has gone the furthest, so I told them this is the best team I’ve ever coached.”

WWAY will be at the Pender game on Saturday. Check out our highlights and postgame reaction on Sunday on the Coach’s Corner at 6pm.
