The Rant: March 14, 2011

While alcohol is often associated with Saint Patrick's day, perhaps too much so, it's not the only thing that represents the culture or the holiday. WWAY's Kevin "Patrick" Wuzzardo has more in tonight's edition of The Rant.

Azalea Parade

Who in the world put this parade together?? I am a local here and in the past 50 + years I have never seen such a horrible parade as this was!! A parade consists mainly of bands, lots of bands, horse clubs, which was only 2 units, but when it came to our high school bands especially our own home town high schools, why in the world would any one want to group them all together as New Hanover County Honor bands? If 1 band student is in a band thats enough to say the whole school band is an honor to see them march. And here they all are at the end of the parade? Parades consist of out of town as well as local bands, many floats of all, beauty queens - which I might add were too many and clowns. I realize these queens deserve alot of credit but this was just too too many..I live in the monkey Junction area and love it but to have a float with 2 monkey queens ?? All the guests and celebrities and especially the queen were just great super stars taking their time to come here, but PLEASE next year lets see some more bands, local, out of town and state. And last, have someone who is experienced to put together a parade that makes us all proud to be Wilmingtonians !!!
