WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — You may recall back in December, we brought you the story of a special middle school student. In the frigid cold, then 12-year-old Ari Garsh, volunteered his time and money to collect pet food at a local Lowe’s food store for the Pender County Animal Shelter. Today, we caught up with Ari, now 13, as he braved the dangerous heat for a cause he truly believes in.

“Well they really needed the food this time and I’m just out here collecting again,” Garsh said.

Not only has the Roland Grise Middle School student collected three truck loads of dog and cat food Friday, he’s also focused his efforts for a dog with heart worms.

“The dog was name Smiley Girl and she really needed it and they only had about 17 dollars in donations so I gave them 317 dollars.”

Even with a heat index well over a hundred degrees, Ari was able to recruit others to help. Eleven-year-old Malia Spear said, “We’ve gotten a lot of things and I’m just proud of everybody giving us stuff.”

Chad Campbell also took time away from enjoying his summer break to help. “I really had nothing to do so I figured I’d benefit the day and do something good to help shelter dogs and cats.”

It goes to show, a young age doesn’t always limit ability. Garsh plans to keep up his efforts. “As long as they need help I’m just gonna keep on doing it.”

I was wondering if you could find out if the young man, Chad Campbell, used to live in Huntersville, N.C. My daughter was good friends with a child named that when they were 3-5 years old. They were in daycare together and played soccer together for 2-3 years. She was trying to look him up. We moved to VA. My name is Cindi McGee and her name is Heather McGee. They graduated from the Childtime Childcare Center in 2004. She is 14 now so I was hoping maybe this was him. If possible and you can contact him and he knows or remembers us. Have his parents contact me through the e-mail. Just a hope! Thanks!
