WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As Wilmington moves on in discussions to build a ballpark, a former councilman in the city who’s team we may get sat down with us to share his thoughts on this big decision.
If city council approves the plan, the Lynchburg Hillcats will find a new home here in Wilmington.
Bert Dodson served as a Lynchburg Councilman for more than a decade, including helping decide to renovate the city’s ballpark a few years ago. He says five franchises have come through lynchburg in the past 30 years, with the Braves being the most recent. Though baseball is very popular in Lynchburg, he is not sure it would be in a tourist town like Wilmington.
He did have some advice for Wilmington City Council members.
“My advice is to ask the hard questions,” Dodson said. “You’re not irritating anybody. This is not a real estate deal. This is not a building development deal. This is dealing with tax payer money and they will be known for the right decisions they make.”
Dodson says he does not think a new stadium is possible without using taxpayer dollars.
