WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Workers at a Wilmington restaurant are donating their time and money to support victims of the Colorado movie theater shooting, and you can help.
Red Robin lost one of its own in the shooting. The restaurant’s store here Wilmington is doing its part to help victims and their families.
Alex Sullivan was a Red Robin employee, who went to the midnight premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises” with co-workers last week. It was the beginning of a celebratory weekend with friends and family that ended in lost lives.
Across the country, Sullivan’s death had an impact on his extended work family.
“Here at the Wilmington store, just like they were in Colorado, we were waiting for midnight, and we were all getting together figuring out who all was gonna go (to the movie),” Red Robin employee Jessica Norris said. “There was about 15 to 20 of us that all went, so when we heard, it just hit really close to home.”
Being able to relate to the victims so well, many at the Wilmington restaurant wanted to do something to give back to the devastated colorado community. Norris and other employees decided to come in even on their day off day and donate their time and tips to the victims of the shooting.
Many costumers made the trip to Red Robin to support the cause.
“We realize how important friends are, and we think it’s great that a company such as Red Robin sticks together and supports fellow workers and friends,” customer Ilse Englehard said.
Red Robin employees hope others will come out and support their effort to help victims and their families. The restaurant is open until 10 p.m.
The restaurant will also hold a lemonade stand in Mayfaire Friday. Profits will benefit the Colorado victims.
