Atmosphere Academy: How are tornadoes different from hurricanes?
Tornadoes and hurricanes certainly have similarities. They both contain destructive winds; they both have a tendency to rotate counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere. Hurricanes have relatively calm centers called eyes, and some scientists speculate that the center of tornadoes may be somewhat hollow as well.
