Beauty queen overcomes tragedy, takes home crown

In November, a Columbus County beauty queen's life changed forever when she nearly died in a car accident. This month, Melissa Walsh got back on the stage for the first time since her accident. While the competition was stiff, her courage made her a fierce competitor.

Congratulations Melissa! I had the privledge & honor of meeting Melissa and competing with her at the national Global America Pageant. She is an extrordinary woman and I am honored to call her my friend & pageant sister. People tend to stereo-type beauty queens and pageants, Melissa and my fellow national queens are everything but your typical beauty queens. She is an accomplished, talented and compassionate soul. A true inspiration to all of what it means to perservere in this life, no matter what curve-balls it throws at you.
