Military veterans honored a former Fort Bragg solider for his service in Iraq, but the award he received today was long overdue.

carpino receives purple heart

Zachary Carpino, was an excellent soldier, competant and was more mature than his peers. I served with Carpino and I know all too well what he went through. Charlie Troop 5/73 and Bravo Troop have a long history of letting paperwork slip through the cracks, not making proper reports or documentation due to incompetant leadership. I am sure Carpino isn't the only soldier that wasn't given a purple heart who was injured during our 15 months in Iraq. Narrative correction FYI: The 2 VBEID's that blew up our patrol base (school house)was located in Asadah , Iraq near Baquoba in the Diyala Province. Sgt Ken Fort Bragg , NC
