Charges against Sheriff Hewett
Sheriff Hewett
The story broke last night: Sheriff Ron Hewitt removed as Brunswick County sheriff. Hewett's office has been under federal investigation since June. However, last night's removal was separate from that action. This was the work of district attorney rex gore and many of Hewett's own deputies. We need UNIONS in NC !!!Submitted by jt (not verified) on 2 April 2008 - 11:00am.
The deputies made a united decision against their boss, but it stops short of protecting there futures. The next Sheriif can just as easily fire someone or take advantage of his position because he wants to. Union workers can be fired also. But not for discussing pay or because you look like the boss' in-law. It is nice to worry about your jobs, but yall need to think about your futures !!! I JUST WANT TO CONGRATULATE ALL THE DEPUTIES THAT STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND WERE WILLING TO FIGHT FOR WHATS RIGHT.IT IS A SHAME WHEN ONE PERSON CAN INTIMATE THEIR EMPLOYEES AND GET AWAY WITH THIS TYPE BEHAVIOR. WELL RONNIE HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING ON THE OTHER SIDE? I PRAY FOR YOUR FAMILY , AND YOU BECAUSE YOU NEED PRAYER. reply to ALL DOGS HAVE THEIR DAYSubmitted by just another tax payer (not verified) on 1 April 2008 - 5:57pm.
How can you say God Bless the Brunswick county deputies that stood their ground? You have a very low standard for a hero in my opinion. If there was anything to any one of the accusers,if they were(real men),they would have said something to Hewett when these things happened, not conspired with other non-men(and I use this term in the kindest way)to get even with him. You know yourself one of these accusers wants to be sheriff and this was the only way their little minds could figure out how to make it happen. It's all a conspiracy, and furthermore, everyone of these accusers should all be fired,we tax payers can not trust them to protect us. After all, who is going to be their next victim, you,me,or another innocent person. We have to put a stop to this nonsense. As for your prayers,I'm sure you would not be praying for anything good to happen to Mr. Hewett,so keep them to yourself or pray for yourself or your so called heroes. Am sorry yall belive that but yall need to think about some stuff do u think that over 100 people that have worked with him for years would sign a petation to get him out if this was all bull i dont think so.... also they must have some form of proof otherwise it could not be broadcasted..... so its the truth he has done everything he is getting suspended for.....he done this and now that he has gotten caught he wants to hear people are on his side....and i think people need to understand that THERES NO REASON FOR HIM DOING ALL OF THIS.... he is being a hippocrit cause his job was to stop people from doing wrong and look at him.... It is what it is. ...It's all true..Submitted by Officers wife (not verified) on 30 March 2008 - 12:48pm.
I'm the wife of one of a BCSD. Thank you for your support for our officers. Yes, it was very courageous what they have done. I have seen first hand the pressure that Hewett puts on his deputies. They were all afraid of him. There have been many times when he has turned his head to crimes that involved family/friends of one of his "rich supporters" for fear of losing their big contributions to his campaign. There have been times when big supporters of the campaign have called in complaints against an officer and Hewett never questions the officer, he just approaches the officer and fires them. It's all about getting votes/campaign money. All officers are required to attend all functions of the sheriff or may face losing their jobs..this includes his Golf Tournament(for raising Campaign funds), Churches that support Hewett, & even the Sheriffs Dept. Christmas party that we have to PAY to attend.... The list of things that he has done goes on & on there is not enough time to go over everything that he has done. Those of you that don't believe that Hewett has done anything wrong you are sorely wrong, everything that has been told is absolutely true... Again, Thanks for supporting our officers. To the family of Hewett, our prayers are with you... Pay to attend....Submitted by Thanks For your comment (not verified) on 2 April 2008 - 4:23am.
You had to pay to attend Ronald's Christmas Party? I don't think so, no way he should do that to people that wear a badge for Brunswick County. The problem is Hewett thought they were wearing that badge for HIM. ( I ME AND MINE ) seems to be Hewett's tune. If you and your husband had to " PAY " to attend, that said attendance was OPTIONAL. reply to officer's wifeSubmitted by another officer's wife (not verified) on 1 April 2008 - 6:58pm.
You must be as weak a person as your husband. My husband has never had a problem that he could not handle. If your husband had a problem with Sheriff Hewett, he should have addressed the issue at the time of the occurrence. If he was afraid of losing his job, then he doesn't need to be a law enforcement officer at all. A law enforcement officer needs to have a backbone and needs not to be afraid of anything. He could have taken his concerns to the Lt. or Capt.,and then if he still got fired you could have sued. Please.....how many times has your husband done personal errands on the county's time? Be careful how your answer, it could mean an embezzlement charge. As for the Christmas Party, you had to PAY, Honey, we all have to pay for what we get, dinner is not free, why do you think you should not have to pay for your dinner?,nothing is free in life, there is always a price to pay. How old are you anyway,it sounds like someone needs to grow up.If you didn't pay for it, it could have been considered embezzlement. I am the mother of Billy Wade Russ. I hope and pray mr. Hewett never has to go through what I have been through in the past year and half. If there is hell here on earth I've been there. The exposure of the corruption within The Brunswick County Sheriff's Dept. has been a long time coming. the truth shall set you freeSubmitted by love (not verified) on 28 March 2008 - 10:19pm.

may i ask what do you mean by "judges also like monetary donations"? Are you saying that this thing goes higher than the sheriff? Are you suggesting that the use of the state personnel and the state helicopter to monitor the construction progress of the governor's house in Southport could possibly be an embezzlement charge against our Governor? You know that would equate to the same thing hewett has been accused of,maybe you're right, maybe the Feds. need to look deep into this because like you said it is deep. N.C. Headlines |

Ronald Hewett
I am a former Brunswick County Native. I grew up with Ronald. We attended church together and our families knew each other well. I don't ever recall not knowing him. I find all of the allegations against him very disheartening. The person I grew up with was a good person and I always voted for him when I lived in Brunswick County. I heard of these allegations through family and friends and felt compelled to offer my thoughts. Innoncence or guilt on Ronald's part I do not know but what I do know is that we all can get caught up in situations or may even create situations for ourselves that just shouldn't be a part of our lives. But for the person that I knew and grew up with I certainly thought of as a friend and still do. When someones actions are less than desirable no matter what their position is in society, if they are quilty, then yes they should be held within the same standards as everyone else. However, I do not feel everyone should bail on him even if he is quilty. Can you hate the sin and still love the sinner? I think so. We have all done or said things we shouldn't and I am sure the pressures of office were great, that doesn't excuse inapproiate behaviors but I do feel people of any stature can become misquided in their efforts. I hope the people of Brunswick County, the people that I grew up with and still consider friends and family will remember the good Ronald Hewett has done. Will still be there for him. It is when we are in our darkess hours we need those friends and family the most. I don't think that Brunswick County will ever be the same and maybe Ronald Hewett's life may never be the same. However, the community can pull together, maybe not in support of him as a Sheriff but in support of him as a citizen of our community, a friend, a husband, a father, a son, as a person who right now may need to know more than any other time in his life that we can still support him because we care. When we fall short of our intended efforts and short of the expectations of our community and friends and family it can be a dark and lonely time. He and his family need our prayers and support. If his efforts were less than perfect and the expectations the community placed on him were not up to par then I am sure he will be punished. Don't forget the Lord is loving and forgiving and we have all fallen short of his expectations, could we be more like him? I could not imagine walking in Ronald's shoes right now. Every eye focused on you. Every finger pointing at you. Every person you have know in an entire lifetime wondering and questioning your every move. I will pray that no matter what happens he will have the strength to see it through. His children still need him, his wife, his family, his friends. Know that there will be life after this even though it seems bleak now. You can find the strength to overcome this and you still have support and prayers of the people who love you Ronald Hewett, the person. Step up Brunswick County and stand behind Ronald Hewett for the person you know and grew up with. He deserves that much, we all would!! My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family!!
