democracy

The founding fathers created a representative democracy due to the technological restrictions of the time. Now with computers, there really is no reason we should not have a TRUE democracy, especially in local government. I am tired of local politicians, senators, and delegates voting directly in opposition to the voice of the people. Government needs to downsize, streamline, and become less of a burden on the people it is supposed to represent.

You asked for it!

You got screwed! Since you like this council and county government, go down and thank them. I moved to Hampstead and am loving it. You poor people in the city are getting it from both ends and receiving less service for the money. I'd walk and protest on the city and county meetings. But of course no one has real balls for this.

Taxe increases

I think it sucks that we have to make for the mistakes that our council and finance people make. They should double and trible check their figures before submitting the budget. They probably make more money then the lower and middle class make. We senior citizen who live on social security have a diffecult time making ends meet what with gas, food, and all taxes going up. I think it is time for some changes to help us live without worring about how we are going to live from day to day.

Out of control government

Thomas Paine observed, "We still find the greedy hand of government thrusting itself into every corner and crevice of industry, and grasping at the spoil of the multitude. . . . It watches prosperity as its prey and permits none to escape without a tribute." Thomas Jefferson gave us several warnings that we've ignored: First, "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground." Second, "The greatest [calamity] which could befall [us would be] submission to a government of unlimited powers." And third, "Whensoever the General Government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force." "The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
