Coucil to vote Tuesday night on financing of Yaupon Pier

Since I was a small child I have fished piers in NC. As time has passed more and more piers have gone. Development and other ventures have taken away this great and affordable way for families to fish. On Oak Island, there used to be three piers and there was more than enough people to fill them all. Now, sadley, there is just one. This city with great forethought is moving in a way to preserve this family venture. As far as the crys by others that the city will be competing agains private enterprise is just a joke and not true. Whomever the city leases this too will be the person(s) in competition and not the city. Again, time has proven there is more than enough room for two peirs on Oak Island. Now there can be choice rather than a monopoly! And with the city owning the structure, a better chance that at least one fishing pier will survive for years to come. Way to go, Oak Isalnd, thanks from thousands of us!
