Former deputy under investigation working as apartment courtesy officer

Illegally accessing a government computer system. Former New Hanover County Sheriff's Cpl. Charles Smith is charged with doing just that. As the investigation heated up, Smith quit his job as a cop. Now, though, we found an apartment complex claiming Smith is its courtesy officer.
