Former employees talk about problems at senior care facilityOur investigation was sparked by an e-mail from a former Glencare employee. WWAY's Joe Mauceri sat down with that woman and another former employee who say conditions have not improved since last year's DSS investigation. Assisted Living Facility
First of all, I am currently living at home with my terminally ill mother. I could not imagine how I would react if she had to live in a facility with the intolerable conditions such as no heat, or or a nonfunctional toilet, or a janitor taking care of her for an evening.I have researched the info found in this video and it is true. I absolutely agree with and support Ms. Rotella's efforts to have this facility and the problems that were supposed to be reported to DHHS investigated. This facility must be brought into compliance with regulations and closely monitored for continued compliance.
I would hope neither the City of Wilmington, nor the Sate of North Carolina would allow our seniors to sustain such abuse.
Its also deplorable that a company would falsely accuse an employee of failing a drug test in order to "dismiss" them and possibly discredit them. If they had any honor at all they would have corrected these violations concerning plumbing, heating, supplies, and staffing, as well as having a handicap accessible van. They would have taken the incident reports seriously concerning their residents/patients. They would have counted their blessings for having the caring staff such as Ms. Rotella and Mary, for these women truly cared for their patients. I admire you two brave women for coming forward to be a strong advocate for our sick and weak Fathers and Mothers.
This is so wrong!!!!!!
This is so wrong!!!!!! HIPPA protects patients from photography!!!!!!! How can you you continue this story without getting the facts. Yes this is WRONG. Rotella was escorted by law enforcement due to her threats is this the kind of employee you would keep? She is not creditable and anyone with a medical background can tell you that the bruises on the broadcast are not uncommon in the elderly. Get a real story why are you only witness's employee's? I will tell you because they are the only ones with a complaint! Ask the the responsible parties. Focus on the drugs on the streets and the people using them. Focus on children and the elderly who are really abused. How many times has DSS been in the building? If all these allegations were proven why are they still in business? What about the other facilities why just this one? Look at all of the rest homes in your area. This is by far the biggest abuse of the media I have witnessed. There are
many laws broken but not by this facility. HIPPA is a big one and everyone involved with this should be punished. These elderly should not be displayed on TV or this girls phone without their written permission and I know that was NOT done.
not a hippa violation
Anonymous pictures of injuries are not a hippa violation and it leads me to wonder what sort of person can see such bruises and injuries and be so matter of fact about it. If you look at those pictures and think "HIPPA" instead of feeling outrage that such happenings occur apparently with the full knowlege of administration, what kind of person does that make you?
Glen Care needs MANY changes
I can't imagine being in administration there and being able to go to bed with a good conscience. That place has deteriorated again rapidly. I've heard many complaints from patient's first hand and they are not ALL demented. Walk down the halls and look at the dirt. Ask patient's if they received their meds, were assisted to the bathroom. Walk down the hall and see how many don't even have callbells near them if they need assist. Let's hope someone stands up for us if we need it.
