Law enforcement: Wal-Mart rumor is urban legend

Rumors about gang initiation rituals that target women are circulating in Columbus and Brunswick Counties. The basic premise is that gang initiates need to kidnap and harm a single white woman in a parking lot or gas station in order to become members.

Walmart Gang Initiation Rumor

It's absolutely horrible how a rumor can have such a negative effect on so many people. This rumor has been spreading all over the country for a very long time now, and it's horrible for so many reasons. First, it does scare people. Second, it probably has hurt Walmart's business to some extent. I'm not a Walmart fan, but hey, they keep people employed. And lastly, it makes gangs look twice as bad. Yes, traditionally and stereotypically gangs are violent, but I think this sort of propaganda is just wrong. What's the purpose? Do they want us to hate gangs and gang members? Do they want to scare poor little white women, or do they want Walmart to go down? Who ever started propagating this thing is downright evil!
