Leland: population up, crime down

Good news out of Brunswick County tonight. The town of Leland has seen a significant drop in crime, despite a boom in population.

Retired geezers aren't known as a demographic group responsible for a lot of crime. Take a look at the average age and net worth of Leland residents between 2002 and 2007. While the crime rate fell, they have climbed substantially. So while the police are certainly doing a good job and their efforts are helping (and appreciated), the biggest reduction in crime has come from shifting demographics.
