Sheriff Hewett indicted with embezzlement, obstruction
Brunswick County Sheriff Ron Hewett was indicted on four criminal charges at today's hearing: three counts of embezzlement and one count of obstruction of justice. Hewett's problems have grown dramatically since a federal investigation was launched in June. AFTER LISTENING TO ALL OF THE AUDIO RECORDINGS, IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT THIS MAN NEEDS SOME MEDICAL HELP. HE AND HIS FAMILY AS WELL AS THE CITIZENS OF BRUNSWICK COUNTY WILL REMAIN IN MY PRAYERS. No where to lookSubmitted by I Am Sick (not verified) on 3 April 2008 - 12:52am.
This is one of the saddest scenes I've ever witnessed. He can't LOOK at his deputies?! He can't speak, throw up his hand to wave? How devastating a moment this must be. Ron Hewett could have been sheriff for as long as he wanted to run. That's how popular he was. There was only one way to get him out of office and that was to destroy him which is what his enemies have done. He most certainly needs our prayers. I for one will be praying for him and his family, as will many others. May God's hand cover you, Ronald. May He be your shield and your sword. I think he had more than a small part in destroying himself. N.C. Headlines |

Ethics
The NC Code of Ethics for lawyers provides that a prosecutor IN A CRIMINAL CASE must "refrain from making extrajudicial comments that have a substantial likelihood of heightening public condemnation of the accused.Rex Gore has stepped over the line.
Rex Gore released tapes made comments on the petition to remove Sheriff Hewett then two days later charged him with four felonies. He knew what he was doing by releasing those tapes to the public and news stations on the petition.Thats not fair to Mr Hewett their should have been a gag order and a change of venue.Come to find out Mr Gore could have let the States Attorney handle this case like Robeson Co. Dist.Attorney did on the case against 22 deputies in his county. All we want is a fair day in court for Sheriff Hewett but its to late the public has already heard the tapes and read statements made by deputies in the department.
(In his own words)District Attorney Rex Gore said, “The criminal process and the petition to remove were moving on parallel tracks. We got the petition to remove ready last week and filed that knowing we had scheduled the grand jury hearing for the true bills that were returned today.” NOW ASK YOURSELF WHY?SO HE COULD RELEASE TAPES ON THE PETITION THAT HE CAN NOT RELEASE ON THE CRIMINAL PROCESS.THATS PLAYING DIRTY.
