Troubleshooters: Oak Island budget concerns

Over the past few weeks, we have been telling you about concerns that residents in Brunswick County have with the Town of Oak Island. Now, the town's former mayor is worried about the town's skyrocketing budget.

Oak Island Spending

Thank you for airing this story about how the Oak Island Town Council is spending our money. Why do they think we need to have new buildings for all town employees? WE are going to have to pay for all this WILD SPENDING!!! We need a change in our administration at Oak Island. Susan Scott

Oak Island Budget Concerns

The total cost of the Towns new Wastewater System is more like $130 million according to the Towns Financial Feasibility Evaluation released in early 2008. The Towns Budget will roughly double from $16 million in FY 2008 to approximately $30 million in FY 2011. It was interesting what the Mayor had to say about paying his property taxes. Look up Trace Properties on the County and Town websites and note the 2007 property taxes still owed on parcels 235KE010 and 235KE011
