FROM A NEWS RELEASE SENT TO THE WWAY NEWSCHANNEL 3 NEWSROOM FROM THE CIVITAS INSTITUTE:

David Redwine, a Democratic candidate for NC’s Senate District 8, and his campaign have mailed out a flyer that is sure to raise some controversy among the Democratic Party. His flyer states, “David Redwine wants to throw the book at CEOs who just won’t quit hiring illegal immigrants.” His platform includes “tough new fines for corporations caught knowingly hiring illegal immigrants;” “jail time for CEOs who are repeat offenders;” and “bringing the Arizona immigration crack down to North Carolina.” What’s most interesting about the flyer, however, is that the NC Democratic Party paid for it. These reforms would get many “amens” from several conservative voters and organizations but to most liberals and their liberal-backing organizations, such rhetoric is contrary to everything they believe when it comes to immigration law. I just can’t see the NC Justice Center or the NC Dream Team supporting Redwine any time soon. Is the NC Democratic Party losing sight of their base or are they finally conceding that illegal immigration is a real problem that needs to be addressed with real solutions.

Does this flyer lead us to conclude that the NC Democratic Party supports Arizona’s immigration laws? If they endorse candidates with such a platform, one can deduce that the answer is a resounding “yes.”
