Vote supports Air Force One museum

New Hanover County commissioners are in favor of bringing an Air Force One Museum to Wilmington. Monday night they voted to support the proposed museum. Wilmington City Council has already expressed its support. The $34 million museum would be located on a DOT plot of land near MLK Parkway and Kerr Avenue, and would be privately funded by money raised by the Air Force One museum board. A final decision on the exact location is expected before the end of the month.

No public funding?

Suuuuuure! Just like they promised on Airlie Gardens. This white elephant may be BUILT with private funds, but as soon as the gate receipts don't meet the O&M budget, the city and county will be forking over wads of cash for this "essential" tourist attraction that few go to. What a joke! The planes do touch-and-go's here. Yippee! That's a reason to build the museum here? And WHAT a museum! Did you read the description? Photos and one of the old planes? Perhaps a new wing at the Air & Space Museum in Washington would be more appropriate? Someone could propose a museum to Q-Tips and this county commission would throw their full support behind it.

1) An Air Force One Museum would bring tourist into Wilminton, NC, which brings in more tax revenue. 2) It would create jobs to BUILD the Museum. 3) It would create jobs to RUN the Museum. So before you complain about how your tax money is spent, why don't you reconsider the benefits something of this nature would bring to the community. Also, the fact that its privately funded means none of your tax dollars would be spent to build it. You're just ignorant, like most Americans seem to be these days.

This is completely privately funded and would bring jobs to us, not just with the museum itself, but also with construction. What tax money are you referring to?

Did you even read the article? No money from taxpayers is going into this project at any point. It is all being privately funded by the Air Force One Museum Committee. While I agree with you that there still are better things to do with THEIR money, it's still THEIR money, and they can spend it however they see fit.

Hello -- no public funds would be used for this. In fact, if you read the resolution, it's only acceptable if it is entirely privately funded. The city could only benefit from this educational museum through some additional jobs and tourism. If you don't agree or don't want it, then don't contribute to it or visit the museum.
