An update on the clear cutting story in Lake Waccamaw at the Cove Canal swamp reveals that the state is offering to buy the proposed land.
The state had offered Riverstone properties $600,000 to buy the land, but Riverstone feels the land is worth nearly $800,000.
North Carolina Congressmen Dewey Hill said the state is performing a new audit of the land to reassess the value. Hill said he spoke with Riverstone, the group that planned to clear cut the area, and they will not cut down any trees until the state audit is completed.
