Canceling your cable may sound drastic, but it's something people are considering as they're cutting back on expenses. Best of all, there is a way to do it, without missing your favorite shows. Quite simply, watching TV on the internet is convenient. You can watch whenever and wherever you want, and all it takes is a high-speed internet connection. An average cable bill is about $100 a month, so canceling it could save $1,200 a year. It may be something to consider because there's an alternative… watching online. "You feel like it's just on-demand TV just similar to going to a jukebox, picking out whatever song you wanted from whatever era, and now being able to watch it on-demand, full length, with limited commercials,” said Michael Kummer of Rocky Point. Watching shows online is simple - convenient - and free. Like Kummer, you can catch your favorite shows on the network's website. So if you missed the season premiere of "Lost," just go to abc.com and watch it at your convenience. You can also log on to a website that airs shows from multiple networks on one website like hulu.com. Watching TV on your computer is perfect on the go, but if the small screen just doesn't cut it at home, you can often connect your computer to your television. To get the best quality picture, you're going to need a computer with a TV output option. If you still want to local programming, like a WWAY newscast, you'll need an antenna that'll connect into the back of your computer. Some older computers might need a digital converter box as well. If you have to invest in the computer and hardware, you're looking at spending upwards of $650, but you'll never have to pay a cable bill again.

cable free!

It is great to see other folks considering what my husband and I did last year when the BIG switch occurred... we switched cable off... now we are cable free! Yes, there were adjustments, yet we have really enjoyed spending our hard earned money else where! We watch what we want, when WE want via the internet! And we have enjoyed checking out Free DVDs from the county library! We are invited to friends homes for special TV events, like the inauguration, the super bowl and life is grand...we also know that we can reconnect when it suits us!! cable free...yeha!!!

Watching TV on Your Computer

I truly enjoyed this article. I have been afraid of cancelling my cable and watching shows on my computer because I thought being able to watch TV from my computer would involve a lot of complicated and difficult things to do, but now I'm going to give it more serious thought.
