Water pump noise angering residents

READ MORE: Water pump noise angering residents
A noisy wastewater treatment plant has created a lot of buzz in a New Hanover County neighborhood – literally. Residents who live on Cathay Road -- across from the wastewater treatment plant near Monkey Junction have put up with for the past four years. Resident David Cottle said, "Thing's just constantly buzzin'. You know, it's not something that stops. It just constantly goes everyday and it's hard to relax with that." The plant is set up for the neighboring Beau Rivage Plantation development. The Beau Rivage homeowners association president told WWAY that residents there are also bothered by the noise. She said that the board complained to Aqua North Carolina, the company that oversees the plant, but residents on Cathay say they want results. Resident Sam Prosser said, "Whether it takes New Hanover County to force them to do something, or the state, we're just ready for it to end." Prosser says he's called everyone from the county attorney to the sheriff's office for help, but the plant is still buzzing. Aqua North Carolina could not be reached for comment yesterday, but the president of the Beau Rivage homeowners association said the company recently contacted her. A representative said it will begin "noise reduction work" sometime next week.
