Environmental health officials are advising swimmers to stay out of a certain area of Wrightsville Beach due to high bacteria levels.

The advisory affects the area along banks channel, off Waynick Boulevard between Snyder and Seashore Streets.

Bacteria levels in the water exceed the State and Environmental Protection Agency's recreational water quality standards.

State officials say they will test the site again, and will notify the public when the water is safe again.
