Watered down amendment will still prevent many from lighting up

A proposed law that would have banned smoking in all workplaces, including bars and restaurants, was watered down and tentatively approved in the State House yesterday. Lawmakers voted after an amendment was added that bans smoking in businesses that employ or serve anyone under age 18, but not other businesses. Smoking friendly bars and restaurants would have to post that fact at every entrance. After approved in a final State House vote, the bill would move to the Senate.

you smokers

The argument that "Smoking is a choice", and better yet, "This is a free County", is a complete joke. We had the opportunity to stand up and show the rest of the country that we care. Instead, out politicians caved and we look like dirty southern rednecks once again. The fact is, smoking kills period! Better yet, 2nd hand smoke kills too! I smoked for a long time. I quit two years ago and I want to go into a bar and not have to sneeze my head off all night or keep my cloths out on the porch when I get home because of the smell. I want to enjoy a beer and a game of pool with out using eye drops. I see the point about the liberty of smoking. But seriously, when you spread a noxious fume that kills and poisions others, you are the ones that should get out of the way. What gives you the right to infringe upon my right to a healthy lifestyle. We as a population had the chance to show America that we wanted to attract a better lifestyle. Instead, we showed our selfish southern charm...

Liberty

What happened to letting individual businesses decide whether they want to allow smoking or not. There are plenty of resteraunts and bars that dont allow smoking. If you dont like that you can or cant smoke in a business, dont go there.

Well, well

You nasty smokers got your way...You can still drink and smoke until your hearts content...Drink and drive and kill yourself with smoke and everyone else with your secondhand smoke....You won a small victory today, but this "so far behind the times" state that we are in will eventually come around. Hopefully, the Federal Government will assist with this matter and ban it in all public places!!!! At least, if the Senate passes it, I will be able to take my children to ANY restaurant and not have to deal with you stinkies!!!!

Always punsih the smokers

OK, to start with I AM A SMOKER, but here is my point...let the drunks go to the bar, "bartender may i have another" and let them drive and kill someone....but HOLY JESUS...do i dare and light up a cigarrette. It is a proven fact that alcohol related deaths out number those from second hand smoke or lung cancer. WHEN WILL SOMEONE WITH A HALF A BRAIN WAKE UP. I went to AA to cure my problem...will there be an SA?

Umm..

clear that yellow film from your eyes...it says this applies to establishments that server individuals under 18...which BARS DO NOT..I agree with this...I don't smoke, but when I go into a bar...I take the smoking with it.

Why?

Why does everyone want to ban smoking? It is a free choice to make and if a child decides to smoke then the parents need to step up and prevent/discipline for it, not the state government. People who smoke need to speak up. Not only that but if smokers get this taken away from them then nonsmokers need to make a sacrifice as well. An eye for an eye.

Why? Response

My mother died from oral cancer as a direct result from smoking. My dad died from a heart attack with a cigarette in his hand. My brother died at 45 from a heart attack after 25 years of smoking (he was being considered for a heart transplant). I was told 20 years ago that if I didn't quit, I would get emphazema in 5 years. Hope that answers your question.

"Why does everyone want to

"Why does everyone want to ban smoking? It is a free choice to make and if a child decides to smoke then the parents need to step up and prevent/discipline for it, not the state government. I have read the comments on many issues on this forum, but the above jibberish is without a doubt the most ridiculous, stupid, moronic nonsense that anyone has ever posted.

Why

If it's a choice, the smoker should sign a waiver to pay all his medical bills, related to smoking, and a statement not to smoke around people that don't want second hand smoke. Oh, yes sign a pledge under penality of law, not to litter the nasty cig butts in public places.

The point was not a child

The point was not a child choosing to smoke. The point was a parent who chooses take a child into a restaurant and doesn't want the child to have to be blasted with smoke. Would you like the nonsmokers to give up their oxygen? Really... what should us nonsmokers give up to make that an even thing? Maybe that smoke has killed your common sense brain cell. Or the little bit of oxygen that your lungs can pull in just isn't enough for your brain to function properly. Consideration for others is a wonderful thing that some smokers do have. Thank you for those who choose not to smoke around people who are nonsmokers.

Sooo

I guess that means ALL restaurants will be NON smoking now...is that how I understand this?
