Thanks to one Laney High School senior, the Wilmington Police Department is nearly $2000 closer to building a memorial wall outside its headquarters. Seventeen-year-old Sarah Murnock raised the money at a bowl-a-thon at Cardinal Lanes in Wilmington Sunday. She spent the past few months working at the WPD for her senior project. The wall -- which she projects will cost over $100,000 -- will commemorate local officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. It currently exists only as an architect's rendering, but Murnock hopes to change that. "The guys who put their lives out there every single day, they lost it and we need to show respect for them," said Murnock. She added that she thought an afternoon of bowling might be a welcomed change of pace for most officers.
