READ MORE:

It was the final day of the Weekend Warrior basketball tournament and the adrenaline was pumping.

Lonnie Payton, the event coordinator said, "Always on the second day it's more intense cause its a single elimination now."

The weekend warriors tournament started in Wilmington in 1989 and is recognized by Sports Illustrated as one of the most competitive basketball classics in the nation. You must be invited to play in the tournament and only twenty six teams are allowed. Those teams are made up of the best basketball players from around the world.

Payton said, "These teams are comprised of NBA players, former and present , overseas players former and present and I'm very well pleased with the talent year end and year out."

Four teams advanced into the day's semi-finals. Bad Boys, Cain and Company of Augusta, Georgia, Raleigh Magic, and PCfour3/ABA, the defending champs.

Raleigh Magic's head coach, Curtis Jefferson considers this tournament to be one of the most competitive in the nation.

"We train workout all year for this tournament... it's probably a difference between semi pro and pro you gotta come to play every game, you cant have a bad game, there is no nights off in this game."

With the amount of practice, the talent on the court and exclusive bragging rights at stake, coach Jefferson had one message for his players...." fight fight fight and never give up."
