Wet weather shuts down fair, football games Friday

The wet weather has shut down the rides at the Cape Fear Fair and Expo. Rides and vendors are closed Friday night. Organizers say they're ok with this second night washout because we need the rain. They also say they're not worried about the bottom line. Fair manager Skip Watkins said, "Early in the fair it doesn't really affect the economics as much as it would toward the end. Traditionally if we have a bad Friday, the second Friday is even bigger." Watkins says the safety and security of fair-goers is the number one priority. The fair runs until November 3. We have some washed out high school football games Friday night as well. The Hoggard Vikings will have to wait to play Jacksonville until Monday at 6:30 p.m. The White Oak-Laney game has also been postponed until Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Football cancelled???

I can't believe the football games were cancelled. It's FOOTBALL. They are allowed to play in the rain. I thought it was a joke when a friend told me the games were cancelled.

football cancelled

They were afraid that the turf might be damaged.
