It is festival weekend from Columbus to Brunswick County. Plus, forget your homework; you can rock with UNCW professors Friday night. Think pink Friday. A breast cancer benefit concert, featuring The Schoolboys, a group made up of UNCW educators, will take to the stage to raise money for New Hanover Regional Medical Center's Pink Ribbon Fund. While there, you can also bid on auction items. The event is at Reel Cafe from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Admission is a $5 donation. From rock and roll to the sounds of Ireland. Friday night at UNCW, an Irish homecoming brings Ireland to Wilmington for one night, featuring the Celtic band Cherish the Ladies. Tickets range from $6 to $20. You can get your tickets at the Kenan Box Office. Yam fans will want to head over to Tabor City this weekend for the 38th Annual NC Yam Festival. The arts and crafts booth opens on Friday in downtown Tabor City. The parade gets underway Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. If you are in the festive mood and are a little closer to Brunswick County, head over to the North Carolina Festival by the Sea in Holden Beach. The festival starts with a parade at 10:00 a.m. down the Holden Beach Causeway. After that, visit the several arts, crafts and food booths. Saturday, it is the 22nd Annual Chili Cook-Off at Hugh MacRae Park. For $5, you can sample chili from several area restaurants. All the money will benefit the domestic violence shelter and services. It will run from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. To help neglected, abandoned and abused four legged friends, the Cape Fear Golden Retriever Rescue is holding its Second Annual Dog Fest on Saturday. It will be held next to the dog park at Empie Park from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The entry fee is $5. A former New Hanover high school football player, and teammate of Trot Nixon, is in need of a new kidney. The Bernard Siaki Golf Tournament Fundraiser will take place this Saturday at Echo Farms. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., teams tee off at 12:45 p.m. The cost is $100 per golfer, $400 per team. And at Greenfield Lake on Saturday it is the Walk to Cure Juvenile Diabetes.
