The stage takes center stage this weekend. You can catch the ultimate 90's musical, Rent, at Thalian Hall for the next three weeks. Friday night's performance is a benefit for Thalian Hall renovation, so tickets are $35. Tickets for other shows range between $18 and $24. The show runs Thursday’s through Saturday’s at 8:00 p.m., Sunday’s at 3:00 p.m. If your taste runs more toward the classics, Shakespeare on the Green presents the Merry Wives of Windsor. Performances are at 8:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The shows take place at Greenfield Lake Ampitheater and are free. To help prevent summertime accidents, New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Kohl's Department Store are hosting a Summer Safety event Friday. It is from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Kohl's parking lot on Eastwood Road. The first 500 kids will receive a free life jacket. In case you miss it Friday, another child safety fair is happening Saturday at the Wilmington Family YMCA. The fire department will be there, as well as other events for children. It runs from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, a Wilmington hair salon is holding a benefit for an 11-year-old Rachel Freeman student who has leukemia. Denise Hill is going for her bone marrow transplant later this month. If you get your hair done at Totally Extravagent on Wrighstville Avenue, 50% of the proceeds will go to her family. It begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. The stars are coming out every Saturday this month. It is the Summer Nights under the Stars concert series at UNCW. A wine and hors d'oeuvres reception begins at 7:00 p.m. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. The concerts take place in the Cultural Arts Building Theater at UNCW. Saturday, it is the 24th Annual Beach Music Festival. Grab your chairs and beach towels and grab a spot on the beach near the Courtyard Marriott in Carolina Beach. The first band begins at 11:00 a.m. Tickets are ten dollars in advance and fifteen at the gate. Get them in advance by calling 910-458-8434. Twenty different business and residential water gardens are part of the Just Add Water Annual Water Garden Tour. Tickets are ten dollars per person or 25 per car. You can get them at the New Hanover County Arboretum, Stone Garden or Five Oaks Nursery. The tour runs from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The family theme continues in Chadbourn. It is Family Fun Day at First Missionary Baptist Church on Wilkes Street. It begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Sunday night, there is a benefit for Steward Willard; a 14-year-old Murray Middle School student who is fighting lymphoma. It begins at 6:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Preservation Hall on Dock Street. There will be live music and a silent auction. Tickets are ten dollars.
