The weekend kicks off with the sounds of jazz at the New Hanover County Government Center Friday night. The Benny Hill Quartet performs as part of the Cape Fear Museum Winter Jazz Series. The show starts at 6:00 p.m. Admission is eight dollars; seven dollars for Cape Fear Jazz Society members. Cape Fear Museum members get in free. A classic of the stage is performed with a twist. It is Neil Simon's The Odd Couple (Female Version) performed by the Brunswick Little Theatre. Shows are at Odell Williamson Auditorium at Brunswick Community College in Bolivia Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are 15 dollars for adults, six for students. Call 800-754-1050 extension 416. A portion of proceeds will go to the Cue Center for Missing Persons. Also on stage, the Sneads Ferry Community Theatre presents Nuptials by Judy S. Cook Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the Sneads Ferry Community Center. Tickets are ten dollars for adults, five dollars for kids. Call 910-327-2798 for more information. Buying art could help save animals. Saturday stop by the Pender County Humane Society's Fifth Annual Artists Aid the Animals Art Show and Sale. Art of all kinds will be on sale at American Legion Post 10 on Pine Grove Road in Wilmington. The show runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can also support the New Hanover Humane Society. It is hosting its Spring Yard Sale from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the shelter at 2405 North 23rd Street near Wilmington International Airport. If you want to spend time with animals, check out the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher's Second Annual Scales and Tails Event Saturday and Sunday. There will be dozens of live amphibians and reptiles to check out and learn about. The event is free with regular aquarium admission. The aquarium is open both days from 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. From Fauna to Flora, the Cape Fear Orchid Society is sponsoring How to Grow an Orchid Day at the New Hanover County Arboretum Saturday. The daylong seminar is for everyone interested in learning more about growing and blooming orchids at home. If you haven't registered already, it costs 25 dollars, which includes morning snacks, lunch, a raffle and an orchid to take home. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. Call 910-845-5143 for more information. End your weekend Sunday with the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra's spring matinee. The performance will include Smetana's colorful work The Moldau, Wagner's Prelude to Die Meistersinger and a medley from the musical Les Miserables. The concert is Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Kenan Auditorium at UNCW. Tickets are five dollars for adults, kids 13 and under are free. Tickets are available one hour before show time.
