What better way to kick off the weekend than Friday night lights. See all your favorite high school football teams in action at the 21st annual BB&T Football Jamboree at Legion Stadium. Coach Scott Braswell of the Hoggard Vikings says his players look forward to the jamboree every year. Braswell said, "It's just a great way to kick off the football season, you have ten football teams from around the area, competing, the kids always look forward to it because it's just such a great turnout of fans." The first scrimmage is at six o'clock with Jacksonville taking on South Columbus. And if football isn't your thing, there is plenty to do this weekend around town. Airlie Gardens is hosting county free day Saturday. Everyone from New Hanover County will be allowed free entry into the gardens all day long. Also on Saturday kids favorite Chef Harry Schwartz will be at the farmers market with his 41-foot watermelon bus. People will be able to sample his healthy watermelon creations. He will have everything from watermelon salsa to watermelon cupcakes. And if you are downtown with kids you might as well head over to the Children's Museum on Second and Orange for Mud Day. Kids will be able to play in the mud-slides, mud waterfalls and have the chance to build a traditional Chinese mud sculpture. And if you find yourself in Surf City Saturday night stick around for the free concert at Soundside Park. You can bring your own food and drinks and listen to local garage band Topsail Underground play their greatest hits.
