WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- More than two dozen Wilmington firefighters have a higher rank. The fire department recognized 26 promotions at its annual promotion ceremony this afternoon at City Hall.

Twelve Firefighters were promoted to master firefighters. There are 10 new captains and four new battalion chiefs. In each case, a family member had the privilege of pinning a badge on the newly promoted.

The Wilmington Fire Department experienced a lot of retirements last year. That was certainly a factor in the large number of promotions today.

An old axiom that I had adopted. "Treat your men and women in the fire service as if that someday they may well be your boss."

This I have seen happen twice with me and severaal times with others over 50 years of firefighting service.

Wear your new ranks in good health folks, congradulations, and God's speed,

Frank D. Harrisson
Fire Chief (Ret.)

Did a fire chief write congradulations (congratulations) and god's speed (Godspeed)?

Its good to see rank given out to those who deserve it. Keep up the good work and remember just because you now have rank don't let it go to your heads. Treat all your fellow fireman that are below you with respect and they will do the same for you.
