The city of Wilmington has been selected as one of only 43 cities in the nation to receive a federal stimulus grant to help plan for energy emergencies. The $200,000 grant will help the city expand on plans for restoring power after emergencies and for energy efficiency.

The grants will help cities develop or expand plans to improve electricity reliability during natural disasters such as hurricanes so that power can be restored quickly.

The city will use the funds to hire an Energy Assurance Coordinator for two years to create and implement energy efficiency programs and develop a plan to help ensure energy preparedness during emergencies.

Wilmington was one of only 43 cities across the United States to receive a portion of the $8 million award. Only two other cities received funding in North Carolina.

The city also received a $1 million federal stimulus grant in October, 2009 that will provide funding to make City Hall and other city facilities more energy efficient.

I always thought that the

I always thought that the power company was in charge of such as this. Seems like they are pretty good at it, too. This is government waste in its purest and best form. Your tax dollars at work, going into somebody's pocket, as usual.

What a load of crap!

What a load of crap! Another waste of taxpayer dollars. Don't we have a Director of Emergency Services?

Which one of Billy-boy's buddies will get this job?

Stimulus grant for energy emergencies

$200,000 for "planning" for emergencies when there should already be plans in place for such events? Who gets this money? Sounds like more government waste.

OBAMA and his waste.

Obama and his liberal waste. I think I would feel better about flushing my money down the toilet than to let this monkey waste it.

BO stinks, when is everyone else going to notice?
