Wilmington travelers, you asked... and you received. An additional 388 parking spaces in two lots have been added to the Wilmington International Airport. Airport Deputy Director Julie Wilsey said, "With additional passengers come additional parking so we planned a parking expanison project and we opened the lots on Tuesday." But like anything new, the parking spaces come with a price. The short term parking lot which is closest to the terminal is now $14, the long term parking lot is $8 a day. However, compared to prices at other airports in the area, the prices at ILM may not seem that bad. To short term park at Myrtle Beach International you are looking at $21 a day, long term parking is $8 a day. At Raleigh-Durham International expect to pay $24 a day for short term parking and $10 a day for long-term. At Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, short term parking is $16 per day, while long term parking is $3. And at Albert J. Ellis Airport in Jacksonville, short and long term parking is $6 per day. Despite the parking price hike, most travelers we spoke to didn't mind the rate increase. Frank Sereno said, "I love this airport, its very low cost and easy to get right next to the terminal." Before the parking expansion project, travelers were used to driving around aimlessly looking for a place to park, and some people even missed flights because they couldnt find a spot. Janet Knapp, who's been a parking cashier at ILM since 1999 says the increase in price and the number of spots is long overdue, "They havent gone up in over four years so it's time."
