Wilmington Police search for bank robber


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police need your help finding a man who robbed a bank just before 10 a.m. It happened at the RBC Bank on the corner of Market Street and New Centre Drive.

Police say a black man about 5'10", 150 pounds, passed a note to a teller saying he would shoot if he did not get what he wanted. The man did not show a weapon, but the teller gave him money. He walked out of the bank toward a couple of neighboring restaurants. One witness said the suspect left in a red car.

The suspect was wearing a white t-shirt, light-colored jeans and a gray cap. Police are reviewing security video for any more clues.


The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a bank robbery at RBC Centura Bank, 5120 Market Street. The call was dispatched at around 10:00 a. m. on Tuesday morning.

According to witnesses, a man approached a teller and passed a note that demanded money and threatened to shoot if the employee did not comply. The robber did not display a weapon. The bank employee handed over cash and the man left the bank.

Some witnesses said the man headed westbound (behind Hooters restaurant) and got into small, red 4-door vehicle driven by another person. The car left the area on Market Street.

The robber is described as a light-skinned black male, about 5’10’, 150 pounds, with a thin face and some facial hair. He was wearing an oversized white t-shirt, light colored jeans and a cap.
