Wilmington Police introduce "Text a Tip" program

Wilmington Police have a new program they hope will encourage people to come forward with crime tips. Today, Chief Ralph Evangelous announced the "Text a Tip" program. It allows people to anonymously text message the police department. Police are stressing the anonymity of the program, which sends the messages to a national server that strips the identifying information before forwarding it to police. Chief Evangelous hopes young people will especially take advantage of the tip texting. "We need to tap that whole demographic because they're out there, they're in our neighborhoods, they're in our schools, you give them the ability to talk to us and be anonymous about it,” said Evangelous. To text a tip, type TIP 708, then your message. Send your message to "CRIMES", or 274637.
