A Wilmington woman pleaded guilty to second degree murder and drug charges Friday, after killing a 73-year-old man in a car accident last year. Anna Strickland faces anywhere between 17 to 20 years in prison. That includes her second degree murder charge and three additional drug trafficking charges. District Attorney Ben David said justice was served in this case. "Some of the biggest victims of drug use in this community are the innocent people who are killed on our highways each year," said David. Officials say Strickland was using several drugs at the time she ran a stop sign and collided with the car driven by 73-year-old Robert Meyer. He died on the scene.

Question

I have a question, but understand, I am in no way saying this woman should get a lesser sentence, but my question is: why don't we see those arrested and convicted for DUI (alcohol) related accidents that cause a death, given such a long sentence.? Seem to be a double standard here. How many times have we seen on the news or in the paper of someone killing someone while drinking while impaired, but they either get off or get a very light sentence. There needs to be stricter laws against DUI, whether it is from drugs (illegal or prescription) or alcohol. The laws need to be consistent. And I know many don't agree, but if you drink and drive or use drugs and drive, under the influence, and you injure or kill someone,, you are as guilty of attempted murder or murder, as someone who would have picked up a gun and shot the person. An automobile is a deadly weapon in the hands of those under the influence of drugs, alcohol, inexperience, or just plain stupidity.

Good this girl was arrested

Good this girl was arrested by me in 2003 for DWI and got off. Then in 2006 she started dating my friend and he died of an overdose in 2007. She needs to go to prison for the rest of her life.

She seemed like a nice girl

She seemed like a nice girl when she was at a party of mine way back around 1996. I kicked her out after I found out she stole something from me. I felt bad about it after I found out she was partially paralyzed by a hit and run car. She had a chance to turn her life around and it seems she just went 360 and went even further down the bad karma trail. May God forgive her for what she has done....
