READ MORE:
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Winston-Salem high school basketball player who collapsed during a junior varsity game has died. The Winston-Salem Journal reports that Khalid Prince died Saturday night. His grandmother said family members were at the side of the 18-year-old when he died at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Khalid collapsed after making a 3-pointer at the start of the second quarter of Parkland High School's game against North Surry High School. A teacher performed CPR until paramedics arrived, and an automatic defibrillator was also used. His death was the second to occur during a high school athletic event in Winston-Salem. In August, 15-year-old Matt Gfeller died of a brain injury caused by a collision with a player during Reynolds High School's season-opening football game against Greensboro Page.
