DURHAM, N.C. -- A former 911 operator has been convicted of killing a North Carolina Central University college student more than three years ago.
Multiple media outlets reported a jury in Durham returned a guilty verdict Monday against Shannon Crawley.
Twenty-five-year-old Denita Smith was killed on Jan. 4, 2007.
Superior Court Judge Ronald Stephens sentenced Crawley to prison for the rest of her life without the possibility for parole.
Crawley contended her lover, Greensboro police officer Jermeir Jackson-Stroud, killed Smith, to whom he was engaged.
Jackson-Stroud is not charged in the case and would not comment after the verdict. Prosecutors contended Crawley tried repeatedly to frame Jackson-Stroud.
