I applaud NC elected officials for overriding the governors budget veto.
While I agree that education is critical for our children, I think it's time for teachers to step up to the plate and provide the extra help and time it takes to give children the guidance and instruction they need. In private industry, people work harder and become more productive when times are hard. Why do teachers feel that the impact of budget cuts is on the children and not on them. Work harder and longer in bad times and be rewarded in good times. Teaching is a privilege that should be treasured and fostered by the teaching professionals. Teachers need to be part of the solution and not a part of the problem.
In extraordinary fiscal times, the answer may be more effort and not more funding.
It is about time for the politicians to start using their creative minds to solve these issues. The taxpayers of America are tired of their hard earned money being wasted by individuals who seem to be inept to preform the duties they were elected for. These "Band-Aid Antidotes" do nothing but prolong the problem, and in most cases make them worse. It is time for everyone to do their part to right the ship. We can not continue down this path of leaning on the working class to solve every problem. There are a lot of programs that could be cut in order to remedy these situations. Hand-outs are going to quickly be a thing of the past. The working class will simply refuse to pay for someone's alcohol, and drug habit's...
Their needs to be drug tests for those on government help. Simply put if my tax dollars which I could be using to feed my family are being taken from me so someone can by drugs and alcohol doesn't sit well with me. These individuals need to be tested periodically, and often. What's fair is fair! As for the sales tax hike vs teachers salaries... I've heard these scare tactics before. It is nothing more than a instrument to invoke fear that they will "have" to eliminate teachers to secure a budget. How about reducing the salaries of some of these city, and county officials who make excess of 100K a year... but wait... then they wouldn't be able to afford their country club membership's... well too bad!! Time to cut the FAT!!
...it's for education, it's for the poor, elderly, homeless...I'm so sick of these politicians and high paid "officials". Quit spending money and take a pay cut. Budget like I have to do.
I agree, randomly drug test everyone that is on government assistance and quit paying these people to have babies they can't afford while just sitting on their butt and collecting a check, free housing and food stamps. There should be a limit on how many babies people on welfare should be allowed to have. Yeah, that sounds harsh but so is having to go out and bust my ass to support my family And theirs...
WHEN ARE WE GOING TO HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT CUTTING COST. WE ARE ALL CUTTING COST IN OUR LIVES, BUT WE HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM OUR "LEADERS". BELIEVE ME, THERE ARE A LOT OF "CUTS" THAT COULD BE MADE AND SAVE A LOT OF MONEY. BUT, IT'S ALWAYS UP TO THE TAX PAYER TO CUT NOT THE TAX "RECEIVER" LET US START ASKING ABOUT ABOUT HE LEADERS MORE!!!!!
This reminds me of a tax hike. when they built highway 74/76. after the road was finished a sink hole developed in the road, so they asked for a tempory tax hike for the repair of the sink hole. when it came time to drop the tax they didn't, so TODAY WE STILL PAY THAT TAX, THAT WAS A TAX ON GAS. NO, TO KEEP THE SALES TAX. SAY WHAT YOU MEAN,DO WHAT YOU SAY !!! I'M TIRED OF THE LIES !!!
We think we pay too much now, however, not funding education will result in more taxes later with a poorly educated population.
...from those that do not contribute! Health care costs for the lazy, inept and illegal. Free housing, free cell phones, food stamps, TANF and the list goes on and on. Have you heard of any cost cutting efforts in these areas? NO! Any efforts for reduction? NO! Any efforts to get the lazy and inept back on to the payroll? NO! Any efforts to eliminate the overwhelming costs of illegal aliens that rape the taxpayers of this country? NO! Start with these areas first, show me some headway THEN come and ask me for more taxes!!!
Then you will have money to educate even more people on how to effectively live and sponge off of the taxpayers AND drive a new Cadillac at the same time!
Until parents are forced to be involved in their children's education it's just going to be a waste of money.
That is what we need to do. People need to finally understand that the government is not here to wipe your nose, change your diaper, and give you lost of money and benefits every month.
MAKE people choose between getting their life in order or being destitute. Stop bankrupting the country to carry the lazy, inept, scammers, and losers through life.
WELFARE does not EQUAL an entitlement. It is not something you are guaranteed to have and it is not something you should receive for an extended period of time.
Blind people can work in manufacturing, and people with mental disabilities work at Walmart. There is a job for EVERYONE, including these folks who feel like having children for the sake of upping a welfare check is a way of life.
Get off your couch and get to work. Raising taxes is necessary when the economy can support it and the infrastructure demands. This is not the time.
Everyone is in favor of education, but this was supposed to be a temporary tax. If it is not repealed, then our legislators did not tell the truth about their plans for the money. How do we know that the money would even be used for education? Only about one third of the so called education lottery money goes for that effort. Let's see some meaningful cuts in the administration and overhead related to education before we deal out more money to a system that ranks relatively poor nationwide.
So is honesty.
So is integrity.
This tax increase was passed with the promise that it would be temporary. Extending it would clearly show that the state is devoid of honesty, integrity, and honor.
Let the tax expire and find the money by cutting from the Santa Claus programs.
WHERE is the nearly $2 bil in lottery revenues? What happened to that money?
