WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Residents from a Wilmington community are one step closer to taking their neighborhood back.
More than 10 Creekwood residents graduated today from HOPE Academy. The program organized by the Wilmington Police Department informs and educates residents on topics like gangs in hopes residents can be leaders in their community.
"With the organizations and the planning that they have going for us I think there will be a great output in our community now that we know that we have the support of other agencies that are willing to come and help us here," Creekwood resident Shirley Hines said.
The HOPE Academy graduates said the main thing they want to accomplish is to improve their neighborhood, changing the public's perception of the Creekwood neighborhood.
