WPD: Drunk driver bumps into police horse; starts "melee"

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -- The melee began just after 2:00 a.m. Friday night / Saturday morning when a drunk driver bumped a WPD horse.

A crowd gathered and numerous bystanders interfered in the investigation. The police horse was not injured, but the drunk driver was arrested and charged with DWI.

Fights began in the crowd and WPD officers repeatedly told people to leave the area. By the time the crowds were dispersed, at least eight people had been arrested for various offenses, including Failure to disperse, Disorderly conduct, Hinder and delay and Assault on a police officer.

Instead of traffic cams, surf cams, and tower/weather cams put some cameras downtown so we can tune in and watch it. That would be awesome.

Sunday Morning Wilmington Downtown... This could be a great theme for a reality TV series! It would overrun "Jersey Shore" in ratings and the producers wouldn't have to pay for cast.
